Would-be lifeguards will have the chance to hone their skills through a course held in the summer holiday.

The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) course will be held at the Pavilion Leisure Centre in Withernsea from Monday, 16 August until Friday, 20 August, before an exam on Sunday, 22 August for those who have attended every day of the course.

Anyone hoping to take part in the course must be at least 16-years-old and able to swim 100 metres on their back and their front.

They must also be able to dive to retrieve a brick from the deepest part of the pool and swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds.

There are eight places on the course, costing £205 each, paid in advance.

For more information about the course, or to book places on it, contact James Taylor at the Pavilion Leisure Centre in Withernsea on (01964) 614000.
