As the summer holidays are only a few weeks away, the Humberside Police Lifestyle team are challenging thousands of young people throughout our region to roll up their sleeves and get busy over the summer months to make a difference to their communities over the long summer holidays.

Lifestyle challenges young people aged 10 up to sixteen to form a team of up to five friends and think of how they can improve the area in which they live. By doing this, not only do teams have a great time spending the summer with their friends, they also have the opportunity of winning one of the amazing prizes we have on offer including a holiday of a lifetime to Florida, PGL Adventure Holidays to Wales and France, ‘Hot Rides’ at Silverstone and day trips to Alton Towers and Flaming Land!

We ask each team and appoint an adult adviser to oversee the safe running of their project, and then log onto our website to register to take part www.humberside.police.uk/lifestyle or call the team for a registration from 01482 220700. Once registered your team will receive a free Lifestyle t-shirt and project pack containing all of the information and project ideas to get you started!

We have teamed up with local businesses who have provided teams with a whole host of challenges to take part in over the summer holidays, including KC’s Cyber Challenge to raise awareness of internet and mobile phone safety, Environment Agency’s GreenScene Challenge seeking teams to act local and think global on green issues, Firefighter Challenge encouraging Lifestylers to promote safety; Dream Come True Challenge and many more!

As local officers visit each school throughout the Humberside Police area in a drive to get as many youngsters involved in the project as possible, we are delighted to be working alongside Lifestyle 2010 Principal Supporter, Peter Shipp of East Yorkshire Coaches, who has been involved with Lifestyle since the project started 22 years ago who said, “I am looking forward to another successful year and to once again experiencing at first hand the positive work undertaken by the thousands of young people during their summer break.”

PC Kate Atkins of the Humberside Police Lifestyle team said, “Police Officers and Police Community Safety Officers are currently visiting all schools in the Humberside Policing region encouraging young people to take part in this highly successful youth engagement project. Lifestyle builds both confidence and self esteem in team members, and as their projects progress during the summer, Lifestylers interact with their Neighbourhood Policing teams and gain a great sense of achievement without having the chance of being bored!”
