Here is a selection of local events from Seaside FM's What's On Where guide for June 2010:

  • Tuesday 1st June 2010

    • A Cycle Safety event will be held at Withernsea High High School from 10am. It's free and there are even a limited number of free locks and lights available. Everyone welcome, but children under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
    • Professor Sir David Bellamy will be visiting Sand-le-Mere Holiday Caravan Park at Tunstall, near Withernsea, from 10.30am to 1.30pm. The owner is investing £4 million pound to expand the site to over 140 acres from its current size. Sandwiching the resort, a previous winner of a conservation award, between the coast and the countryside will secure the future of the park in terms of employment, tourism and industry.

    • Enjoy an afternoon with the sounds of the seaside at The Valley Gardens in Withernsea with Organist Dave Hammond.

  • Friday 11th June 2010

    • Midsummer Magic's FREE Disco featuring all your favourite hits from 60's, 70's and 80's takes place at The Floral Hall in Hornsea. The fun starts at 10.30pm. Contact Tracey Wilson on (01964) 532919 for details.
  • Saturday 12th June 2010

    • Roos School Funday starts 11am starting with a Scarecrow Trail. Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult and it's £1.50 per sheet with prizes to be awarded. This is followed by the rest of the funday from 1pm - 4pm featuring a BBQ, beat the goalie, abouncy castle and much, much, much more! It's 50p entry and you even get to see the Seaside FM crew too!     • Singer Lou Dean entertains at the O Zone Club in Withernsea. Ring the club for more details.
    • Elvis imperonator Aaron T Kay will be appearing at Leven Members Club on North Street from 9.30pm. The night includes Ian's Open the Box during the first interval, and Alan's Raffle Draw during the second. Telephone (01964) 542884 for more information.
  • Sunday 13th June 2010

    • The Chris Myers Show takes to the stage in Valley Gardens in Withernsea for an afternoon of fun. Resident DJ Dave will also be there to play some summertime tunes.
    • Densholme Community Care Farm in Great Hatfield are holding an open day between 11am - 3pm.
  • Friday 18th June 2010

    • The Spread Eagle in Withernsea will be firing up their barbeque just ahead of the all important England World Cup clash with Algeria. The fun starts at 5pm.
    • Now entering its 27th year, the Beverley Folk Festival kicks off three days of live music at the Beverley Leisure Centre. Aswell as music, the event offers a weekend FULL of activities for all ages, Family and Youth events, workshops and children's events plus non-stop performances at the Late Night Festival Club. The Wold Top Festival Bar serves the famous Beverley Festival Brew and The Village also features a fantastic array of craft, food and music stalls.     • Five-piece band Mean Eyed Cat perform in the Valley Gardens in Withernsea with support from resident DJ Dave.
    • Withernsea Lifeboat Fundraising Group invite you to take part in the Lifeboat Cycle Ride. It starts from The Lifeboat Station and finishes at Hollym Village Hall for refreshments and certificates. There will be three distances of 5, 10 and 24 miles so all ages can participate. Sponsorship forms available from Dawn's Accessories, Queen Street, Withernsea. All proceeds to be used for the saving of lives at the sea.

    • A Monthly Auction of General Goods takes place at The Floral Hall, Esplanade, Hornsea from 10.00am. Contact Tracey Wilson on (01964) 532919 for information.
    • A chance for theresidents of Hedon to have their say on the East Riding Council's "Your Place, Your Say…" consultation on the Local Development Framework takes place at Hedon Library from Tuesday 22nd June and goes on until Thursday 24th June, from 1.00pm – 7.00pm.

    • The PACE Project are holding a night of music and dance in Withernsea's Valley Gardens featuring Lee Brown's Michael Jackson Tribute starting at 6pm.
  • Friday 25th June 2010

    • Local band The Shine will appear at Bilton Club in Bilton from 9.30pm.
    • Members of the Churches are organising a Flower Festival in St Matthew's Church from the evening of Friday, 25th June 2010 to Sunday, 27th June 2010 inclusive, as part of their 75th Anniversary. The theme for the festival is "The Seaside" and arrangements from other organisations are welcome.     • The third Bridlington Northern Soul Weekender will take place from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th June 2010 and aims to build on last years amazing event. Over 1500 people attended the brilliant 2009 event making it one of the largest festivals held at the Spa, Bridlington. With various rooms of rare, crossover and modern soul all for the fantastic price of £20 for the full weekend this festival of music and dancing is sure to appeal to everyone.     • On Friday 25th June a tribute to 60s rock n roll singers Eddie Cochran and Cliff Richard will take place at Hornsea Floral Hall. The two singers had plenty of hits, you may have heard songs such as 'Summertime Blues', 'Summer Holiday' and 'Congratulations', so there's plenty of past number one hits to look forward to!     • Singer Dan Furniss performs at the Leven Members Club at Leven Sports Hall from 9.30pm.

    • A visit to a Sustainable Seabass Fishery, BBQ Picnic and Bees takes place on Saturday, June 26th. If this is of interest to you then meet at 108 Queen Street in Withernsea at 10am at Shaun "The Prawn" and Penny Wingham's Fish shop. Bring a cool box if you want to buy seabass, sea trout, grey mullet, mackerel and more caught fresh by the man himself! You will then follow the host, Food Journalist/Historian/Chef/Beekeeper/local lad Gerard Baker down to the beach to BBQ some fresh fish, set the shrimping nets and hear from Shaun all about the sustainable fishery (this will include a 5 min walk + tame cliff scaling or park at slipway with approx 15 min walk along the beach!) In the afternoon we will then go to meet Gerard's bees (10 min drive) where there will be the  opportunity to ask questions and buy honey. Cost £6 members/£8 non members for the fish lunch/charcoal costs. All guests will be asked to bring a slow donation to the picnic (bread/salad/pud.)     • Artists from Holderness will be displaying paintings in an exhibition in Hedon. A wide variety of styles depicting ‘This Colourful World’ will be on display, with some for sale. The event is held at Hedon Museum, which can be found via Watmough’s Arcade in the town centre. The exhibition runs until Saturday July 24th 2010 and admission is free. The Museum is open Saturdays and Wednesdays from 10.00am – 4.00pm. For more information contact call (01482) 890908.

    • Driffield Silver Band perform in the Valley Gardens, sponsored by Withernsea Lions.
