East Riding Council is to help coastal communities by buying homes which residents fear could be lost to the sea.

Homeowners in Withernsea and along the East Coast could benefit from the £1.2m funding package secured by the council which will see them buy homes which could disappear as a result of coastal erosion over the next 15 years, and then lease them back to their owners.

At an East Riding Council Cabinet meeting, residents were warned it was not a compensation package or a "a get-rich-quick scheme". The scheme will be based on market value and what maintenence needs to be done to the property.
